Trump Invites Families of Shot National Guard Soldiers to White House
President Trump announced on the weekend that he has invited the loved ones of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the presidential home.
He added that he conversed with her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Heartbreaking Shooting
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Gatherings across the state have taken place in their memory.
White House Invitation
The commander-in-chief explained he’s proposed a White House visit for the loved ones of both soldiers of the state Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump addressed reporters. “And in the same way with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Public Reaction
Community members came together over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to honor Beckstrom.
Both they had been working with the military unit as part of Trump’s national effort to aid law enforcement in Washington DC.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that instructors desired. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that inspired those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s alma mater, stated to the press. “She was caring, compassionate and always willing to help others.”
Service plans for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Legal Steps and Government Changes
Officials have accused a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of homicide and two counts of attempted murder while armed.
The incident prompted the government to pause asylum applications and cease providing visas to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of Wolfe
Wolfe, a resident of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, according to the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia governor Morrisey mentioned on television.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general stated on the program that she planned to meet with the family.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County High in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a MP with excellence, as stated by the military.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had fortitude,” the governor told the crowd at the service. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
