Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was natural for doubts to be asked about his future following another heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in twelve matches, marking the team's worst run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received a lot of backing from management,” Slot stated.
“It's important to change things and secure a win of course but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that people question you.”
He continued, “I accept my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “During our regular conversations we have I feel the belief. However I've not talked to them since this game yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Response
The manager lamented known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He added, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a phase like this with performances so bad.”
He concluded, “But we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we will always fight.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to its rightful place, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
