Australian rugby league's authority has stated that participants who sign with the “rebel” R360 will be barred for a decade.

R360, which plans to launch in October 2026, is hoping to draw athletes from both codes with substantial agreements and a reduced game calendar.

Top NRL players have reportedly been approached by the breakaway group, which will feature six to eight men's sides and women's teams based in key urban centers globally.

Representing Samoa the rugby star, who represents New Zealand Warriors in the competition, has said he has had talks with the breakaway league.

Ryan Papenhuyzen, Lomax, Payne Haas and Jye Gray are also reported to be weighing up offers from the new competition.

Eight major rugby union teams, among them Australia, last week announced a prohibition on players joining R360 playing test matches.

“We have consulted our franchises and we've acted decisively,” stated Australian Rugby League Commission head V'Landys.

“Sadly, there will continually be entities that try to exploit our code for economic benefit.

“They don't invest in pathways or the development of players. They only leverage the dedication of existing bodies, putting players at risk of economic hardship while gaining personally.

“They are, in reality, imitating the sport.”

R360 is co-founded by retired international Tindall and backed by private investors.

Subsequent to the prospective rugby union bans were revealed recently, it said: “We seek to cooperate collaboratively as part of the international rugby schedule.

“The series is structured with tailored timetables for male and female sides and R360 will release all players for test matches, as specified in their contracts.”

R360 will apply for endorsement for its plans from rugby union's governing body, rugby union's regulatory group, at its official gathering in 2026.
