New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and is confident the player will be OK after being shot in central New York early Sunday morning.
Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during their recent conversation.
“That’s what eases my mind, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn commented. “His wife and child, they’re in good spirits and he will walk away from this just fine.”
Glenn was unsure when Boyd might be released the hospital, where he is reported as critical but stable.
“Still unsure,” Glenn remarked. “However, I can share, just talking to him, he felt really upbeat. Furthermore, that’s what gives me comfort, that he feels like that and he’s talking that way.”
NYPD released surveillance images Monday of an individual wanted in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident remains under investigation and authorities said it’s not clear if Boyd was singled out. There were no additional victims as confirmed by officials.
The incident occurred in the early morning on Sunday near the famous arena and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to a local hospital after being shot in the abdomen, according to authorities. The assailant escaped.
Glenn shared Boyd has been in his thoughts “a ton” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a child.
“What immediately crossed my mind, he just had a kid,” Glenn noted. “My mind went to his family, considering his child and my priority is his well-being. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There’s a process to this, that I won’t detail, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.”
Boyd did not participate during the current season, after joining the team, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 with an injury to his shoulder that required surgery.
He joined the Jets as a free agent in March and was projected as an important component of the team’s updated special teams under the coach and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. But Boyd was injured during preseason drills on August 2 and was taken away on a cart.
Boyd has remained around the team during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery.
“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn stated. “In fact, he attends every game. His commitment is total. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”
Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, began his career with the Vikings after getting drafted in the seventh round by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in 2019. He joined Arizona in 2023 and later was with the Texans after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with the Jets in March.
