Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Intense Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but includes a few key adjustments:

  • Every squad has only eight human participants, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions performed by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives additional choices for gamers looking for alternative methods to enjoy the title. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of BF6 players are mad.

Community Reactions: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," comments a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," and another details everything they consider to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

However, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title all the time. Let them strike a balance," states a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Concerns and Player Feedback

All that said, players have valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the system. Thus this new playlist feels like the player base compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?

If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and responding to player input. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
