Arsenal's Crucial Center-Back Gabriel Sidelined for a Minimum of Four Weeks with Muscle Injury

The North London club worry that center-back Gabriel Magalhães might remain sidelined for at least 30 days after sustaining a thigh strain while on international duty in the past few days.

The Brazilian defender was forced off during the Seleção's triumph against Senegal in a exhibition match at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday and has since gone back to his club for additional tests.

Club examinations are still underway, and Arsenal have yet to disclose the exact extent of the defender's time out.

However, he is not anticipated to be available for the key North London derby on the weekend or the European fixture with Bayern Munich just afterwards.

Potential Absence and Missed Matches

Club sources worry that Gabriel could be out for at least four weeks, perhaps more, depending on the nature of the injury.

That could see him miss of key vital matches, such as:

  • Premier League matches against Chelsea and Brentford at the Emirates
  • An road match to play Aston Villa
  • The European match at Brugge on 10 December

The Arsenal team—who currently hold a four-point advantage over Manchester City—afterwards face Wolves at home before a rearranged trip to Everton on December 20th.

Significant Setback for Arsenal's Title Challenge

Losing Gabriel could prove a serious setback for Arsenal in their title push.

The defender has played each minute of the Premier League campaign so far and is crucial to a backline that has let in only five times in 11 outings.

Prior to the recent tie at the Stadium of Light, the side had recorded eight consecutive clean sheets in all competitions.

Replacement Options and Other Injury Concerns

Cristhian Mosquera and other summer arrival Piero Hincapié are in contention to replace Gabriel against Tottenham.

There are also questions over whether forward Viktor Gyökeres will return to play up front after missing the club's final two fixtures before the pause due to a muscle injury.

Meanwhile, Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann said that Kai Havertz has experienced a “minor relapse” during his recovery from a knee injury.

Although Mikel Arteta had been hopeful about the player's return soon, the national team boss indicated that Havertz is currently likely to return in late December.

Team Stretched to the Limit

The club saw their title push undermined last season by a succession of fitness issues and spent significantly in the summer to strengthen the team.

However, with skipper Martin Ødegaard also on the injured list—along with Noni Madueke and Martinelli—the squad is being stretched to the limit.
